Local duo brings scrumptious whoopie pie trend to the Valley

Scottsdale, Ariz. (Spring 2012)—Jennifer Brya and Karen Linkins are living the “Whoopie Way of Life” one sweet dessert treat at a time. By day these two are very successful health researchers and on nights and weekends they can be found creating indulgent and joyful desserts called Whoopie Pies.

These spherical treats are part cookie, part cupcake and all-around delicious. Famous in the Northeastern US, Whoopie Pies are making a dessert assault on Phoenix Metro with help from Byra and Linkins’ delectable flavor combinations.

“We love unique food and after reading an article on Whoopie Pies in 2010, we decided to try our hand at perfecting these desert wonders ourselves,” said Linkins.

After a plethora of sweet attempts and kitchen messes and successes, the pair nailed the recipe for a perfect Whoopie: A light and fluffy cake sandwich in various flavors filled with a proprietary frosting creation of butter cream and homemade marshmallow fluff.

“These cakes are what dreams are made of. We take pride in each and every Whoopie we create and our customers cannot stop raving,” said Brya.

In fact, the baking duo has had so much positive response to their endeavor they are embarking on a new journey. They’ll expand to their wholly owned commercial kitchen later this summer and this expansion will allow them keep up with the high demand for Whoopie Pies.

“We spend a lot of time doing ‘serious’ work for our other business. Whoopie Baking Co. allows us to revel in our true natures: we are fun, irreverent and we have a wicked sense of humor. We showcase that through our baked goods,” said Linkins.

Indeed with Whoopie Pie flavors like “Get Lucky” a Guinness Cake with Irish Butter cream fluff and “Morning Whoopie” a chocolate cake with espresso butter cream fluff, these ladies are unafraid of exploring the world of double entendre. 

Additionally, Whoopie Baking Company uses the highest quality of ingredients and they strictly adhere to their baking philosophy of no preservatives and zero trans fats.
